Hello Everyone
Looking for some opinions about two wides I am conflicted about. I recently picked up the Tokina 11-16 f2.8 for APS-C, and it's a great lens. However, have recently seen that Sigma is coming out with an 8-16 f4.5-5.6 (not available in CAN yet) I will be using the lens mostly for real estate and fun / creative portrait work. I am leaning towards keeping the Tokina because of the f2.8 but am wondering if the 8mm vs 11mm wide end may be better for me in the end with the realty. I could use the speed, but not sure if the 8mm would be a plus or a minus with the real estate photos. With my 11mm I already get some ridiculously exaggerated lines and angles in doorways and walls if the film plane is not perfectly parallel to the subject, I imagine the 8 would only enhance that effect. Would you return the 11-16 that is still within returnable date and wait for the 8mm sigma not knowing it's sharpness etc... or stick with the 11-16 due to the still wide 11 plus the f2.8? Thanks for any input you may have. |

Wait. THe 11-16 is a great lens and would be a shame to send back if you didnt need to. It'll also still have good value a few months from now when reviews start coming out for the 8-16.
Frankly, I find 10mm to be plenty wide (it makes me giggle), so 8 is really quite far.

Good point, I had not considered the option to sell in the near future and that allows me to keep a wide lens on hand for shoots in the mean time while waiting to see some reviews. I would have to say that so far the 11mm has been plenty wide for me as well, allowing me to pull some things into the frame that I wouldn't have thought possible and I do like the 2.8 option. Thanks for your input! |
