Lenses for Nikon D80 - help!

I am just getting into photography and I know very little about lenses. My Nikon D80 came with a 18-55mm and I want something with much more zoom power, maybe 400mm. All the Nikon lenses are expensive. I have seen some off-brand ones that are much cheaper but I'm skeptic. Can anyone give me some advise on getting a nice but cheap ($200 or less) lense for the D80? Thank you very much

You won't find a 400mm lens anywhere that will fit your $200 budget.

Its compatible BUT, the newer VR version offers much better optics in addition to VR. You can probably pick the newer one up used for under $400 these days. It is really a great lens for the money.

I really think that's far too small a budget. $200 doesn't get you much.
