Hello,
Im thinking of getting the Canon 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS lens to compliment my 18-55mm kit lens. Just wondering, if anyone has experience with this lens? Also, it is quite an inexpensive lens considering it is made by Canon and has Image Stabilizer....does the saying, you get what you pay for apply to this? Cheers, Mike

Image stabilisation works well.
Auto-focusing is reasonably fast unless it really has to search in low light. Using a single focus point helps. The focus ring for manual focus is a big ring compared to the one on your 18-55. It turns through about 90 degrees. The image softens a bit above about 220mm. I believe that's normal for zoom lenses. It's not a super sharp lens but it performs better than one would expect for the price, better than the 18-55mm. You're not paying for an L series and you're not getting that sharpness and richness of colour. All in all not bad for the price. |

It's light, compact and good value for money.
(I own that lens + a couple of other Canon tele zooms)
