I've been wondering from what point on the lens is the minimum focus distance measured? Is it from the back of the lens (maybe even the sensor) or from the front of the lens (if so does it change with expansive zoom lenses)? Off course I could do some scientific measurements but I find this forum a lot easier
.

According to the Canon publication "EF Lens Work III" (page 210) it is from the film plane ( Circle with a line through it on the top of some cameras).
No mention of it changing.

Thanks for the reply. Good to know.
About the Lens focal length calculator: It looks like normal optic formulas and therefore not only applicable to cameras, but nonetheless valid .
