Hello,
I have a Canon kit lens 18-55mm, but I want to get a bigger zoom lens like, Tamron 18-270mm or Canon 55-250mm. Is it better to have an all in one zoom, like the Tamron 18-270mm or an additional zoom to my 18-55mm, like the Canon 55-250mm? Having one lens is obviously more convenient.....Im not sure if the quality is reduced with a huge zoom range like 18-270mm. I really should have just bought my camera without the kit lens! Any suggestions/recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks, Mike

Of course megazoom lense are a compromise. Usually primes and macro lenses are best for quality. Next come standard zoom lenses. A megazoom covers a wide area but it is always a compromise.
The best way for an upgrade would be just a telephoto lens, something like the 55-250 or even 70-200 or something like that. If you like the telephoto and dislike your kitlens you can still update that to a Tamron 17-50 f/2,8 for instance.

Superzoom lenses have their place, but if quality is your utmost concern, you're going to want individual zooms or, better still, primes. These can be limiting, but the overall image quality is better.

Thanks for the replies,
sounds like the Canon 55-250mm IS, is a good choice! Mike
