As Nicole says, try with the close-up lens at 135mm.

Default Thanks!

Nicole and Aegea!

I am feeling so happy to click close-ups now!! Thanks for your tip, I used the max zoom and then tried to go closer to get the subject in focus and it did magnify ). Now I have to work on it to see more results.. the first few shots that I took of a penny had a flare. Not sure why?

From Drop Box

Thanks again for all your help!

COuld be 2 things: it's still out of focus (get closer!) or the diopter isn't a very good one. I know Canon makes very good diopter filters, but they're pretty expensive. Yours may not be the same quality. It could also be the filter/lens combination.

You shouldnt be expecting to get macro-lens-like shots from a close-up filter.

I would also suggesting using a small aperture like f/16 or f/22 to see if that reduces the flare - you'll probably need a tripod to hold the camera steady enough.

This post came just in time! I was browsing eBay for macro and zoom options but unfortunately don't have $300+ per lens spend right now. I came across these items and just started researching when this thread came up. I'm not planning on buying these items specifically but wondered about the overall idea. Seeing as how they are MUCH cheaper I was trying to research if the quality is worth it or if I'd just be wasting my money? Thoughts?

Thank You!

When I was trying to figure out how to use my closeup set, I got the flare when I used them on the 55-200 zoom but not with the 35 prime. My "tests" were done on a Nikon lens cap which has silvery lettering. If I hadn't thrown the shots away, I might be able to come to better conclusions as to why that happens.
