Refurbished Lens = 2nd Hand lens?

Can a Refurbished lens be considered as a 2nd hand lens or is there a different?

Generally refurbished can be considered new. Factory refurbished means the item was open in a store or some other circumstance where it could not be sold as new. It is brought back to the factory and checked by hand. Any needed repairs are made and it is calibrated by hand, not machine, and may actually be better than a similar unit just of the production line. The only issue is sometimes the warranty is shorter than for a new item.
