Hey guys,
I'm looking at gettig an LCD protector for my Canon 50D and I came across the GGS protector. Does anyone have any experience with it? If not does what recommendations do you have? Thanks R. |

I put one of these on my D90 and have been very happy with the protection it provides. The only issue I've had is during one of the first times I cleaned it, I pressed on the center of the screen and it stuck to the lcd screen below. So now I have this dark circle in the center of my screen where the lcd and the protector are stuck together. Not the end of the world but somewhat of an annoyance when checking the screen for focus etc.

So the protector sits on a frame (for lack of a better word) on the lcd screen? That was one of the things I was wondering. If glued to the lcd how does that affect taking it off.
IMO that's kind of no go if it affects the viewing of the images on the screen. Sterning, letme ask you, can you take it off and re apply it? R. |

The instructions said that it could be removed by applying heat. There is no way it is coming off without. I haven't gotten around to trying it yet. I'd be surprised if I didn't end up with a broken protector. And I'm afraid the same thing will happen after I reapply it anyway.

I would just use a hair dryer so it shouldn't be a problem. I think warming it up and sliding a credit card around the edge may be enough to separate it. I wouldn't take a heat gun to it. Maybe I'll give it a try tomorrow. I'll post back if I do.

So I got the protector off without much trouble. Warmed it up with a hair blower and slid a credit card around the edges to loosen it. The protector can't be reused though as the adhesive mostly stuck to the lcd. I cleaned off the glue with some rubbing alcohol and a q-tip, then polished with a soft cloth.
However, I don't think my protector was this GGS brand. Although it looks identical and comes packaged with a separate cover for the top lcd just like the GGS ones on ebay, it seems to be made of plastic. When I realized it could not be reused, I tried bending it and this bends like no glass could ever bend. That is probably the reason it stuck to center of my lcd - it is too flexible. In theory, a rigid glass layer like the GGS shouldn't be able to do that. I think I'll try one of these GGS covers myself.
