Default Lens Question

So we have recently (Christmas) purchased the Nikon D3000 and we love it. In finding this forum and my venture into all things photography I decided to dig up my wife's old Nikon N55 35 mm slr camera. To my surprise I found a lens labeled macro. Sweet! My first question was will this fit on my DSLR?

So my question to the masses: I have a Hi Vision 0.38x PROFESSIONAL HIGH SPEED AUTO FOCUS DELUXE SUPER WIDE ANGLE LENS it says Hi Tech Optics 72mm UV on the outer rim. It has a reducer ring to make it go 58-46. This obviously doesnt fit my Nikkor kit lense which is 56 i think.

Is there a way to make this lens work with my DSLR? I can post pics tomorrow if needed. Its bath time for the little one I have to run right now.

Thanks in advance for the advise/responses!

The lens may or may not fit on your camera... try the fit, if it doesn't go on... there is probably a converter available... in any case, the auto focus will not work with the D3000. Some of the DSLR's by Nikon have the focus drive built into the camera like the old film camera's had, but not the newer, entry level ones.

However, you can still use it in full manual mode and if you're shooting Micro... you're probably manually focusing anyway.

What it sounds like you have is a wide-angle macro converter lens. It fits onto the end of your lens like a filter would. Judging from the size of the reducer ring, you will need to purchase a 56-46 step-down ring for you lens to mount this lens on the end of it. These types of lens allow for wide angle shots. And if put onto a zoom lens, and then zoomed in, work very well for macro photography. But be warned, there is usually a lot of distortion that goes along with these. And some lenses might not work well with them.
I have a wide-angle macro converter from an old camera as well, and when mounted on my kit zoom lens, works fine. But when I mount it onto my 50mm prime lens, it looks terrible, and foggy.

Generally speaking these converters are terrible. "Deluxe" and "professional" immediately make me gag.

Your 18-55 lens has a 52mm filter thread, so you'd need to find a 58-52 filter ring.
