Default Borrow Lenses or rentals???

I'm wanting to try some lenses out before I purchase them. If you have done this before can you recommend a site to try that you have use. Thanks

Lyn

I've heard good things about LensRentals.com - Rent Canon, Nikon, Olympus, or Sony Lenses and Cameras , though I've never tried them myself.

I've used lensrentals.com a few times with no problems.

I have also used lensrentals multiple times. For both lenses and bodies. It has always been a positive experience, including one time when I had to cancel a rental of over $500 of stuff at the last moment. There was no nastiness or fees.

I strongly suggest always buying insurance, though. To cover any accidents by yourself.

Very wise decision Lyn,
I've not used online rental companies before... can't imagine how efficient that is, but my local Pro Shop has rental gear and they allow me to apply my rental rate toward purchase if I decide I want to buy it.

I would look for a reputable camera shop near you, and inquire there.

Definitely check local camera stores. We have a local shop that I rent from all the time. Some lenses I will never be able to justify purchasing, 300mm f2.8 telephoto for instance, $5000, vs $60 day/$90 for a weekend which I rent probably once a year for the Kentucky Derby I would have to rent it for between 50 and 80 years before I paid for it.

Weren't you trying to decide between a 35mm and a 50mm or something like that?
It's almost just worth it to buy used and resell if you don't like it. I would only consider renting before buying if you are looking to drop some serious cash. Then again, i've never purchased an expensive lens nor rented one.

I've had good luck on ebay and craigslist personally (buying nikkor 50mm f/1.8 AF lenses as low as $45).

then again, this changes every week

I'm with BorrowLenses and we rent cameras, lenses, and other goodies. We have great reviews on Yelp and Resellerratings. Check us out and let me know if you have any questions.

I was but this is for something different a more expensive piece that I just want to play with to see if i want to invest in it. I am going with the 35mm AF-s for now. hoping to get the fisheye one i want to try and a 85mm that i want to try as well.
