Default dslr too pricey at the moment

but I have a sony cybershot dsc h5 at the moment that I am considering purchasing some accessories to expand my options and learning curve. I am wondering what anyone would recommend I consider adding first, lenses...filters....slave flash? My choices are fairly limited. I mainly take pictures of landscapes but would like to experiment with other types of photography and don't really want to spend the $ for a dslr unitl I am more comfortable with what I have now. Any suggestions?

Honestly, just save those pennies and put them towards your dSLR fund.

Agreed. The only additional purchase for a P&S/bridge camera that's really worth the money, is a tripod for longer exposures.

I think most people would be surprised at what amazing photographs can be made with a basic point and shoot. Don't let the fact that you don't have a DSLR limit your growth as a photographer, Try new things, new angles, new techniques. Take advantage of all the free stuff available like GIMP. Everything you learn at this stage will transfer to your DSLR and you will look like a pro from day one. Most of all, learn composition. Too many people rush into the technical side of photography and never master composition and that is where the real action is. Oh, and one more thing; keep in mind that Ansel Adams started with a Kodak Brownie!

I would agree with you, considering that many of the award winning photos in our club were shot with P/S camera's. However, if the OP is intending to go in the direction of a DSLR in the future then the resoponses would be good advice. Do not spend any more money on something that will soon collect dust on your shelf. Used P/s camera's won't sell for much on craigslist.

As for the P/s vs DSLR argument, if all you want is great photos shooting in auto mode... a P/s camera is a great choice. If you want to think outside the box, and ultimately switch to manual to take more control of the settings.. than a DSLR is the way to go. If you are thinking you are going to take photography seriously you will ultimately want to gravitate toward a DSLR...
