I am an amateur in photography, especially when it comes to equipment and gear. I have a very simple question, the difference between normal (e.g. telephoto zoom) lens and marco lens is basically the ratio? Where usually marco lens have a 1:1 or at least 1:2 ratio? Then what would the ratio be for majority of the 'normal' lens, or does it vary depending on the type of lens?
Sorry for asking such a newbie question :S Thanks for reading!

A true macro lens will focus to 1:1, meaning the lens can focus closely enough to take pictures of things with the same size as the sensor.
A normal lens would normally get 1:3 - 1:7 ish. It does vary dependent on the lens, you should be able to find this information out about any lens.
