Hiya,
Thanks for reading this post. This is a quick couple of questions to help me understand camera equipment better. I have a Nikon D3000 which doesn't have a auto focus motor in the body, it requires there to be a motor in the lens. If I had a non AF-S lens which meant I had to manually focus it (which my AF-S kit lens allows me to do by turning auto focus on or off), would I also loose the aperture control from the body functions? Then, if I didn't have the aperture control via the bodies dials etc, would I still be able to use the non AF-S lens, but have to make sure it had and aperture ring to give me the control rather than being forced into shooting with a fixed aperture. Cheers for your comments Matt |

Provided it isnt an AI, AI-S or Series E, you're fine. Even then, I believe AI and AI-S still get aperture control.

If you use non af-s lenses on the D3000 it has to be in manual try it in a other mode and the camera won't function. It tells ya the lens is not attached. you can get a light meter or go the sunny 16 ruleI still do it with my old Nikon -F even now with the D3000 I got for x.mas I'm using manual It's just what I'm use to doing but I;m old and thats the way I learne. Still not into all the gizmos on these digitals
