Default Tripod mount for Canon 70-200mm IS II USM f/2.8

Any good recommendations on brands or models on tripod mounts for the Canon 70-200mm IS II USM f/2.8 from your past experiences?

I currently have a cullman tripod and is looking for a long telephoto lens mount for it.

I am quite new to photography so, if there is any other alternative ways in which I can securely mount my 40D with the telephoto please tell me?

Thanks in advance!!

It does come with the collar but am i suppose to directly attach that onto the tripod? Isn't there some type of attachment plate like thing onto of the screw-on platform?

Just wanted to emphisize the "if your tripod is set up that way" part. As you do not seem to know about quick release systems, I suspect your choice will be to screw the lens directly to the tripod head.

What kind of tripod do you have? How do you normally attach your camera to the tripod? You would just attach it to the tripod ring instead of the camera. Will your current tripod support a 40D with a 70-200 attached?
