Can anyone recommend a good protective case for my D5000 please? I have a good rucksack type bag for carrying all my equipment around but am looking for something that I can clip on to the camera whilst, for example, I am walking around with the camera on the strap around my neck, just to provide some small protection from the odd knock etc
Does such a thing exist even?

There used to be cases designed for manual film SLRs way back when that were rigid leather, attached via the tripod collar and wrapped around the body and lens. Those dont really exist anymore. Nikon do make a "fitted" case, but its essentially a minimalist camera bag.

*d5000* - Adorama.com 2 are the silicon/rubber-like body armor, or there is a soft case similar to what osmosis was describing. Other than that, if you are mainly worried about your lens getting dinged, a lens hood does offer some protection to the glass.
