Default Recommended camera bags?

Hey guys,

I current own a 40D with the kit lenses (17-85mm), 24-105mm and 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM.

I want to get a camera bag that I can at least carry the 40D with the 24-105mm and the 70-200mm.It would also be good if it had a little space for a phone...wallet??

Any good recommendations?

Thanks guys!

Best site I've seen for researching bags, and seeing them loaded is cambags.com.

I use Lowepro exclusively. Built here in North America, lifetime warranty, impeccable quality.

Ive been using one of their bags as a school pack for the last 4 years and, aside from some fading and some dirt on the bottom, looks brand new.

Thanks for the advice! I will look in to Lowepro and do more research

I have a couple of lowepro bags. I used the nova 5 for years. Then i wanted to have an all in one multi body bag. I picked the tamrac pro 13. It's a LOT of bag! It gobbles up gripped cameras well and it's designed so you could have your 70-200 mounted or not. (It would store the dismounted 70-200 vertically) There's even room for a laptop. Finally, it features an integrated rain cover.

Downside... expensive and HUGE!

So far i've been quite happy with it.

Did i mention that it's huge?

I like Kata bags. Well built, thoughtfully designed, and quite a few good camera & notebook backpacks in the lower price range as well.

Other brands that are often recommended would be Lowepro, Tamrac, Crumpler, Domke, and Thinktank. A lot of it comes down to personal style and what you'd prefer and can afford.

Right now, Thinktank just introduced the Retrospective line, which looks fantastic if you want to go light and inconspicuous. Jeff Ascough called them "Shootsac meets Domke".

I looked at the links you suggested me I agree that the disadvantage of this bag...its is enormous! I am still deciding wether to get a bag for just my 40D and the 24-105mm and have a separate shoulder lens bag for my coming 70-200mm.

Thanks for the advice !

If you're interested in a good bag for crowded places, look at Thinktank's "Streetwalker". It'll hold the kit plus the extras you listed and its got a slim profile, works well on subways and in other crowded places. It's also very comfortable.

I also have a Tenba daypack. Heavy and bulky, but this is the one I use when I need it "all". This bag will not work well for shows, museums, any place where bulk is a problem. I usually use it for photowalks outdoors, when extras like a coffee thermos are a must.

I also have a Tamarac shoulder bag. It'll hold the stuff you listed, but I'd only recommend it for "stop and go" shooting. Carrying this bag on or across your shoulders with a camera around your neck for long periods of time can get to be a drag.
