I can't speak for the R Strap, but my regular strap (which also connects at the bottom) doesn't really get in the way of portrait shooting.

Instead of using the included ring that screws into the tripod socket, I just used a metal ring from a small key ring I had laying around and put it on the left top of the camera where the original strap connects... then I can use the carribeaner that comes with the strap to easily connect and disconnect the camera.

by doing this, the camera seems a little more stable when hanging to me... when secured on the bottom, it seemsed to want to rotate more when hanging, while this way it always hangs the same way.

just my preference...

I did something similar myself for exactly the same reasons, as well as extending the length a little (sacrificed the Nikon strap to do it, but hey, it works)...

Default Heyday

A new camera strap was one of the first things I bought. First I bought a fashionable one that just went over my Canon camera strap. But it was still uncomfortable. So then I went in search of just a new strap. I found this one on Etsy and I love it. I love the fact that I can quickly detach the metal clips from my camera and go strapless if I want to.

I got the Lowepro Voyager-C camera strap, a bit wider than the Voyager-S, I believe. Originally I bought one for my Canon 40D and then when I got my Canon 5D MkII, I bought one for it as well as they're so comfortable.

Lowepro Transporter (feels much better on the neck with the Sigma 70-200 f/2.8), and the Camera Armor SafeGrip hand strap (a little bit awkward, but it works).
