HI I'm thinking on buying a new lenses, I though of 18-200 stabilized lenses.
canon 18-200 IS : 579 sigma 18-200 OS: 371 tamron 18-270 VC: 539 the lenses I have now is 18-55 IS canon. If I buy 18-200 lens I wont need 18-55 and sell it. what is your opinion? |

What do you need this range for? Personally, I'm not a fan of super zooms. Optical quality usually isn't as good as lenses with smaller ranges and you get heavy distortion. Have a look at what ranges you shoot most often (exif of you photos would have this info) and if you find yourself constantly shooting at 55, try and borrow a 50-200 to see if you actually have use for that range.
What I would recommend, is get yourself some used third party fixed aperture lens. I got myself a used Tamron 28-75 2.8 last summer that cost me 300CAD (~210€) which I adore. It's also a full frame lens . On top of that, you can also grab a new prime lens (50 1.8 is excellent) and the total would still be less than that of any of the superzooms. Keep in mind that you'll rarely use full size pictures and that, if you want a "further reach" just crop the center before resizing. That said, if you're bent on getting the super zoom, compare their quality at Pixel-Peeper -- Over a million full-size sample photos from lenses, SLR cameras and digicams. thank you for your comment
what I use most are the extreme of my lens 18mm and 55mm. I'm very happy with the wide 18mm. but already felt the 55 weren't enough, when I wanted to get closer but couldn't walk there. I also though on keeping the 18-55 and buying a 55-something to extend my range maybe its cheaper. |

I couldn't agree more with cowsled! The "all-purpose" lenses I guess are great for folk who really refuse to change lenses at any time, but if you're wanting optimum quality in your photos, you're definitely better off thinking about having a couple of lenses to cover the range that you want to shoot. Definitely consider keeping your kit lens and just adding a new one to the family.

the only problem about canon lenses is the rotating focus that does not allow petal lens hood and PL Filter.
