I have no idea of an answer to your question, but a better place to ask might be the panoguide forums. Those guys have tons of experience with all the pano gear that's out there. I quite like my NN2, but it's a completely different beast from the NN5.
Ah, here's a thread asking mostly what you were: http://www.panoguide.com/forums/qna/7299/ I will say that when you're shooting spherical panos, leveling becomes a non-issue. ![]() The NN heads can be used with both 3/8-in and 1/4-in screw threads on tripods.
