Question Constant CF Errors on Canon 400D

Hi Everybody,

I bought budget CF cards for my 400D and have started to regret it. I bought some Kingston 133X 8GB Elite Pro cards online, and have inconsistently been having "Problem with CF Card" errors. They tend to happen when I take several pictures in a relative short period of time (e.g. 30 shots in 10 minutes). It first happened on vacation in SE Asia, so I thought it might be a heat or humidity issue. But I just got back from BC, Canada where I was shooting indoors where it happened again.

I've tried formatting the cards when I insert them, taking the cards in and out, and many other nintendo-cartridge-esque things with no luck.

Should I abandon the budget-ware CF cards and go for some pro series ones? If so, do you have any recommendations? What do you shoot with, and what has the reliability been like for you?

Many Thanks

I've been using scandisk extreme series for about 2 years now without one problem ever. right now I have the 16g extreme III and 3- 8g extreme III.. I love them. they are not that expensive. you might try them.. Just remember you get what you pay for

Nothing is foolproof and I don't think Kingston is "budget" they make a good product IMO.

I get occasional CD (card) errors with my sandisk extreme 4 cards...An quick eject/insert fixes it...

sk66, what happens when you get CD errors with your extreme 4 cards? Do you lose any photos, or is the eject/insert the brunt of the pain?

Kingston is hardly "budget". Sounds like the pins might not be lining up properly.

I'd agree with OsmosisStudio's statement, I'd think something is up with either your card or camera. Kingston is far from the low end, granted you can spend a lot more if you want to get crazy but Kingston's Elite Pro is the middle of the road card (and better than most CF cards out there) that they manufacture and gets excellent reviews. I have a Kingston Elite Pro 32 GB CompactFlash that I have been using as my primary compact flash card without issue. I shot with a Canon EOS 7D had have shot burst mode a few times without any issues also while using the Kingston Elite Pro card.

Nothing lost, but it won't take a pic until it's recognized.... simple eject re-insert.

Hmm, thanks all. It looks like I'll just have to keep plugging away and see if I can figure it out.
