I have used a 35mm for years and im used to using a split prism to focus. I was thinking I would love to have one on my canon 1000d. Then I saw this while searching on the net. Has anyone here used one on there dslr and if you have what is your opinion on them?

I use one in my 50D when I've got my manual focus Olympus Zuiko OM-mount 50mm f/1.2 on the front of the camera.
![]() I love it, but there are issues with using one. The prism collar does go dark when the max. aperture of the lens hits f/5.6 (which is why I always take the Katzeye out when I'm going birding with my EF 400 f/5.6L USM The viewfinder is darker. And it's near-impossible to get the circle to line up exactly with the center AF spot on the Canon AF-point screen. And below the 40D/50D and higher model cameras, it's a serious PITA to install one, and you can't really think of swapping it in and out like you can with the cameras that have the little hinged door for interchangeable focus screens.
