....is that like the Canon vs Nikon threads?
I have been frustrated lately with iPhoto's shortcomings and have been looking into both of these applications. Right now I'm working with Lightroom and really like it for its ability to not only organize but edit as well. Plus it works with RAW. My current equipment are 2 Canons; a 40D and an XTi. I'm also working in a MAC format machine. Am I just digging up an old debate? Should I just pic one and go with it? Is one more network friendly then the other? Am I just asking stupid questions? |

Personally, I say pick one and go with it! They are both outstanding programs.

I use aperture and I really enjoy it, it's easy to touch up photos and make adjustments. You can also go on apple's website and download extra apps for editing with. Some are free and some they ask you to pay for. I don't know anything about lightroom, as for aperture it lacks the ability to add text and effects are pretty limited. It's frustrating sometimes but those are features you get by paying more $$$ for a program like Photoshop.
![]() I'm sure each has it's pros and cons. |

Hi,
Apple released Aperture 3 a couple of days back. Aperture 3 is worth having a look at and they have removed lots of short commings from Version 2. Download the User Manual of both, Aperture 3 and Lightroom 3 Beta (I am not able to find a direct link to the User Manual but google it and you will find it, if you cant, write me an email and I will email you my downloaded copy) and see if you are getting what you want from the program. The biggest question you have to ask is what you want from a Program like LR or Aperture. I would recommend The DAM book by Peter Krogh if you have patience to read it as it breaks down everything that a decent amateur/pro photographer needs to know about storing and retrieving his photos. I would say that he really goes deep into the concepts and if you dont like technical bits, it gets boring (I have skipped chapter 5 right now and will read it later on) What is it that you want from these programs and what is iPhoto lacking in that you want?

dharmit, thanks! I just ordered that book.
Lori, I think you are right, I have been playing with both of them and they are great programs. I think I will stick with the Lightroom for now since I have CS4 too. I'm using it a lot so I'm really getting the hang of it. |
