Unhappy Please Help! Lens jammed or locked?

I'm having a bit of trouble with my Nikkor 18-55mm camera lens, it seems to be jammed or locked on 55, it's incredibly frustrating as I did nothing to cause this. Would anyone happen to know how to fix it, lenses cost a lot to fix apparently, and I'm not exactly prepared to pay for a new lens when I did nothing to brake the 2-month old lens in which I have.

Also, it's for my Nikon D3000.

lenses generally bind like that because theyve been subject to an impact of some sort.

That makes sense, but is unlikely in my case as I was holding the camera in my hands when this happened. At first it was fine but there was a bit of struggle when moving from 45 to 55, then I had trouble moving from anywhere past half way between 55 and 45, and now it's confined to 55. Is there any way that I can fix it?

In that case it should be under warranty. No harm in sending it in for a quote.
