I was looking at the GIMP website and noticed it doesnt say it's compatible with Windows 7. Does it say that just because they havent updated the text on their website, or does it really not work with Windows 7?

I have been using 64bit Windows7 Ultimate since December. I'm also running GIMP and it works fine. Basically, Windows7 is a super patch to Windows Vista (well... most people say it is what Vista should have been). Programs that work in the equivalent bit version of Vista should also work in Windows7. The only issues I've encountered is running certain 32bit programs in a 64bit environment (e.g., Dragon Naturally Speaking you have to have the newest version). However, I had those same issues in 64bit Vista.

All reports are saying it works fine on Win7, with some freezing issues, especially if you leave it open for very long periods of time (GIMP freezes, not the entire system).
There's an experimental 64-bit version available, but it's stability under Win7 is unknown. There are native 64-bit versions for Linux, so a 64-bit version for Windows is certainly on the horizon. |
