Arrow Which Tripod?

There are so many tripods on the market I have no idea what I'm looking at. I have a 5D MKII and the 100 - 400mm lens. Ideally I want a lightweight tripod, but which one is best for my camera set up?

Many thanks for you advice

Jeff

Tripods, and and even more so, tripod heads can be pretty specfic to the kind of work you want to do. Probably the first thing is to decide what type of head you want:ball, geared, pan, pistol grip. You can decide if you want a quick release plate or not...probably do as they make it nice and easy to mount and unmount your rig. Then decide on legs. lightweight or standard or heavy. If you're on a budget, many time you can save some $$ by buying a kit that includes a set of legs and a head.

With that as a starting point check out:

A million thanks guys, you've all been brilliant, thank you.

I've settled on the Manfrotto 055CXPRO3 Carbon Fibre 3 Section Lightweight Tripod with the Manfrotto 322RC2 Heavy Duty Grip Ball Head.

More than I originally wanted to spend, but I came to the conclusion that if you buy a good tripod, it will last you a lifetime.

Cheers,

Jeff
