Question on Second Curtain for 580 EX

Help.... I just got my new 580 EX this week and am psyched to use all the cool new features, but cannot for the life of me figure out how to make the second curtain option come on. My manual just says to toggle the hi-speed sync button, but all it does is toggle hi-speed sync on and off. No second curtain icon appears. I am sure it's something really simple... can anyone help?

Am using it on a Canon 7D, if that helps. Thanks!

If you're using the 580EX off-camera and popping it with the 7D's built-in flash, you can't do 2nd curtain sync. With older camera bodies, you can set 2nd curtain in the body, but they removed it from the 7D, and in slave mode, the 580EX won't let you set 2nd curtain from its back. It's a rock-and-a-hard-place thing.

Thanks for the info, but in this case, my 580 is attached to my camera... at least I think it is firmly attached. All my other on camera controls are communicating with it.

I think the button that looks sort of like >>>| on the 580 sets 2ndCS if you hit it a couple of times. It will not work if in wirless mode.

From what I have been reading you need the 580EX Mark II for most of the menus on the camera to work.

Oh my thank you! That was it... it was in wireless mode. I never would have figured that out on my own, and the manual didn't mention that at all. Thanks a bunch!
