Default Dropped my ND filter

I just bought a new ND filter for my 50mm f/1.8. The very first time I tried to screw it on, I dropped it. This is not the first time I've had trouble. Once, I cross threaded.
My problem, my fingers are fairly large.
My question:
I've seen some people with slide in filters into a holder instead of screw on.
Does anyone know how handy these are, how expensive they are, and where to buy one?
Thanks,
Dave

You're talking about the Cokin-type filters. Theyre usually more expensive, but they are more versatile.

The slip-in style is invaluable for landscape photography when using graduated filters. This is because the horizon isn't always going to be in the same place, and not always at the same angle (for example, if you have hills or mountains at the horizon, you don't want to underexpose them so you can angle the gradation of the filter).

Then again, you could just gaffer's tape them to your lens, too. I'm serious.
