Forgotten

Camera: Nikon D90
Lens: 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3
Date: 1/16/10 9:17pm
Exposure: 1/3 sec @ f/4.5
Focal Length: 50mm
ISO: 200
Flash: Did not fire

This is the first picture I took with my new Nikon D90 - my first ever dSLR (and camera, actually)!

So onto the questions:

1) Does the edge of the counter draw your eyes away from the subject because of the color contrast between it and the wooden cabinets? Do you think the picture would have been more effective if I had shifted everything to the left so that the edge couldn't be seen?

2) Is the green cap too bright and distracting or do you think it adds some interest in the background?

That's all that I can think of right now but please feel free to critique away on other things as well.

The harsher you are, the more I'll learn. ^_^

Well, first the subject is blurred, shutter speed too slow. use a tripod or make sure you are hilding the camera really steady if shooting at thsi speed. The colors a bit flat, you can add a bit more contrast to it. I wouldn't mind the green cap, nice bokeh and composition here.
