Default First attempt at Panning

Hey everyone,

I am very new to photography and this is my first attempt at a panning shot. I haven't used much of post processing (partly because I don't know how to). I would like to know if the framing is correct in this particular picture and whether the application of the rule of thirds would/could make it better. If so, how? Also, if there is any other obvious mistake, I would love to correct it. Thanks!

The picture details are given below.
Camera: Canon EOS 450D
Exposure: 0.025 sec (1/40)
Aperture: f/22.0
Focal Length: 47 mm

i personally would prefer it if the bikers weren't just in the middle of the picture. What about cutting off some of the street in the foreground to help position them at least somewhere not-center. Also, I know nothing about panning, but I'm pretty sure your subject should be in focus. You'll want to keep shooting for that because that would be really cool!

Thank you.... I will try cropping the picture to play around with positioning the bikers in a different region of the frame.
