Default Ominous

I'm really not sure about this photo. Does it have any photographic merit as an abstract? Does it really feel ominous? Do you feel like the figures are facing you or away from you? How can I improve this shot?

Some feedback is greatly appreciated!

first of all, I'd say the picture is too large, it throws the forum layout out of whack, at least on my screen

Second, ominous? No, not in my experience, mainly because of the 'subjects' looking rather friendly to me.

I do like the composition however, and I can think of just one thing to improve it, which is getting the subjects more into focus. It has a slightly blurry feel to it.

Thanks for the feedback! I'll make sure future photos will be uploaded in a smaller format.

I'm not sure why the subjects are blur though. While the lights were still on, I used AF to focus on the subjects, then switched to MF, turned off the light, and made the shot using a remote control while the camera rested on a tripod.

love the background. I agree with Heatcliff about the focus of the subjects, if they were a little sharper I think it would be better.

I agree about the focus. You know what i thought of when I saw this pic? Animation shot of two characters (definitely potential heroes) who see a great light and are drawn in by it. They want to follow the adventure. So, no, not ominous, particularly because one of the subjects looks like pippi longstocking in silhouette.

I like it. the lights and shadows are cool here, the mystery the figure is facing us or not makes this pic interesting.

Thanks for the replies. I love the background too. I had 2 pieces of large white paper, one for the background and one for the surface the figurines were standing on, then fired the flash at many different angles just to see the effect I get. Really had fun experimenting with this shot.
