Default Rainbow pancakes!

So this was a quick shot - took a few but liked the first the best, though none were great on focus when looking at original size... :/ I had seen this online, and promised to make them next time I visit a friend. On a snowy morning, I did a test batch and my fiance was more than happy to help test them out!

IMG_0461rev

Camera: Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi
Exposure: 0.033 sec (1/30)
Aperture: f/2.2
Focal Length: 50 mm
ISO Speed: 100
Exposure Bias: 0 EV
Flash: Off, Did not fire

Adjusted temp/levels slightly but not much. (Finally switched to taking RAW shots all the time yay!)

Should it be cropped differently, or is the fact that it's a rolling pin in the background tie in with baking/cooking well? :P Should I have gotten the whole plate in the picture? (tiny kitchen, messy from baking cookies - I wasn't really setting this up properly, just grabbing a fun pic before we ate!)

Anyway - thanks for any advice! Mostly wanted to share this but I'm always looking for feedback to improve, hence posting it here and not SYS.

Heya,

First I have to say they look so yummy and colourful!

I think it woud look better cropped at the bottom and the right side to take out more of the plate while keeping in the rolling pin, so the pancakes wont be completely centered, as I zeroes in on the pancakes and didnt even notice the rolling pin til I read what you wrote. So I think cropping it down wold bring it all together more. Hope I explained that so it made sense lol.

I like the rolling pin, etc. I think it gives context to the image. I might try to include a little more of it though...

I think cutting off the bottom of the plate is the right idea. I think I would go even more so that the pancakes are closer to the bottom edge of the image. I also think including some of the mess might be fun and interesting too!

My guess is that the lack of sharpness was due to camera shake. Tv 1/30 isn't fast enough for a 50mm lens, especially on a Canon APS-C camera. If I had taken the shot, I would have moved my ISO to 250, which should (if I've done the math right) give a Tv of 1/80 and no camera shake.

Great image!

Thanks! I'll try playing with the cropping. I never even planned to have the rolling pin in the shot but like it :P

and duh about the long shutter... I've been using aperture priority with my new lens and didn't really pay attention to that. thanks for pointing out what i really should have known! I'm still happy with the clarity for web use at least.

I appreciate the comments. (and yes they were yummy!)
