Default Abandon building

I am new to this forum and trying to get better at photography. I have what I feel like is a good subject, but my picture doesn't do it for me. Do you think I should try it again at first or last light?

I appreciate any feedback.

Different lighting would most definitely help. I would also change perspective.

I don't like it when the tips of objects are cut off in photos. Here it looks like you backed up to get the whole face of the house in the frame but managed to cut off the roof peak and the chimney anyway. Maybe you couldn't move back or zoom out further, I don't know. If you can get the whole house in the frame can you turn to the left a bit and get more of the house and less of the trees? As it is, having that chimney chop the image in half doesn't help. If you can't get a decent view of the whole thing (or even if you can ), then move in close and get some shots of the details. It looks like there should be no shortage of interesting things there. Whatever you do, the getting some golden hour light will definitely help.

I will ditto all Sterlings suggestions. This does look like a great subject for a variety of photos. Hopefully it is a place you can return to.

Thank you for the replies. I didn't recoginize the composition error (cutting off the peak of the roof and the chimney). I have plenty of room to get the whole house in the frame. I can return and try some more photos, but only on the weekend. The days are short up here in the frozen Northest. I will post another picture this weekend (hopefully better). I will also try some close-up shots to capture texture/detail and maybe some picts inside the building.

Thanks again,

Jeff

Well, I returned to the site of the abandon house and tried again. I tried a different perspective and took the shot in the early morning. What do you think of this composition?

Abandon house-front

Here is the EXIF data:
Camera: Olympus C730UZ
Exposure: 0.025 sec (1/40)
Aperture: f/3.5
Focal Length: 19.4 mm
ISO Speed: 100
Exposure Bias: 0 EV
Flash: Off, Did not fire

Again, any constructive criticism is welcome.

Thanks,

Jeff

I put some comments on this one in your Flickr. But for critique, just that top part of that tree on the left looks odd and is distracting. Moving the camera to the right to exclude it and get a bit more of the landscape on the right might have been a bit better. Or maybe even back up a little more to get more of the setting and a feel for the abandoned. Great capture of the texture of the old place.

Thanks again freezeframe. I viewed your comments and responded below on flickr. Another thing I tried was turning off the noise filter. I felt like I was losing some detail. What is your opinion on noise filters. It seems like if it was a good thing, it would be on all the time.

Hey Jeff, well, I don't know a thing about noise filters. I don't know much about techy stuff at all. Just a hobby photoger here. I like to do critiques cause it helps me improve, not to mention I just like giving my opinion. Sorry.
