i took this to help promote my nephews cycle shop.
what i'm looking to know. would this be even slightly comparable to some thing from cycle world, or more like some thing in a local auto trader. i'm trying to become a well rounded photographer, canon rebel Xsi (450-D) shutte speed 1/60 apature f/11 ISO 200 focal length 33mm flash fired yes and yes it's for sale. but thats not why i'm posting this

To my eye, it's a sharp shot, good detail, rich colors. For sure, this isn't auto-trader material (it's much better). What keeps it from being Cycle World, I think is there's too much going on in the background. If the shot is about the cycle, then what I see more often in the magazines is either a simpler background or something that puts the cycle in the kind of scene where you can see yourself riding it.
I see a lot of desert, lake and track shots. The background stretching out in the distance, but the cycle front and primary. Mind you, I like the background you've chosen, but it's got so much going on that my eye is spending a good bit wandering to the open sign, the painted background, the shadow lines. Other people may have a different opinion, I'm no expert. I think you may have chosen this background, because you're also promoting the shop with this shot. If that's the case, you might scope out the scene and see if there's a better background that maybe put's the name of your nephew's shop in a corner. These are just my thoughts regarding the 'purpose' of this image. In terms of just admiring it's clean lines and great color, I like it a lot, nice highlights. |

You've captured what a Harley is supposed to be about: adventure, the open road, and odd little places in the middle of nowhere.
2 things bother me about it, though. The shadow running right down across the handlebars make me look for what's hidden in the dark, and the reflection of the sign in the window make it look like more of a snapshot than a glamor pic of the bike. Maybe move the bike away from the building a little, to still capture the biker outpost idea while not distracting as much from the bike itself. Cheers... Will |
