1 - it would be nice to see a larger image
2 - select your depth of field ( the f - thing :-) )

Please check out the rules at the top of the critique section. It's pretty tough to suggest what to change until we know what you've done.

First, as Wombat suggested, use a smaller f number (bigger aperture). But the extend of this trick will depends on the lens that you used so can you post your lens focal range and f value?

Like others have said, without the EXIF data it is a little hard to make suggestions.... but to speak in a general way...

To achieve the narrowest depth of field (DOF) possible, you need to set your lens wide open (as others have said) AND you need to focus at the minimum focusing distance for your lens. The easiest way to do this is to set your lens to manual focus, turn the focusing ring until it stops and then move the camera closer (or further) from the subject until it appears in focus. Doing this will give you the narrowest DOF for whatever lens you are using.

Also, keep in mind that the focal length of the lens will determine the amount of DOF. A wide angle lens will have deeper DOF and a telephoto lens will have a shallower DOF.

I don't know the Nikon D70, but if I had that camera with the 18-70mm kit lens, I would: 1) put the camera on a tripod. 2) Flip the switch on the side of the lens to MF. 3) Zoom in to 70mm. 3) Set the aperture to f/4.5 (wide open at 70mm). 5) Move the tripod so that the 'sensor plane' of the camera is approximately 38cm from the faucet (minimum focusing distance). 6) And start taking pictures.

My guess is that you might need to zoom out to get the same composition and that you might need more than the minimum DOF to get the shot that you want.

I hope that this helps.

KG
