Default Still Life: Don't know if I like it...

Hi Everybody,

I took this image of a decoration in the entrance hallway of a hotel that I stayed over the weekend. I'm not sure if I like it. I feel like it is a 'so what' photo. That is to say, that it doesn't really tell a story or communicate anything.

Any ideas? Is this image worth keeping?

Any and all criticisms, reactions, thoughts, etc. are appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Just my thoughts...
I like the decoration itself but the thing that bothers me most is the furniture on which is it. The wall behind is really nice for this kind of decoration though.
Also, I would take this photo from a slightly different angle, not that much above.

I was going to say that, try a couple different angles. I'm just not feeling it with this angle, but it seems like there could be a great photo from it

Thanks guys!

I tried a bunch of different angles, especially lower, but it just made the vase (?) look huge.

I think that it is an interesting subject, but I guess my skill just wasn't up to the task.

Thanks!

It's a Japanese thing, isnt't it? I have been to Japan, stayed there for 4 years. And as your name also contains Kansai (関西), I am assuming that you are Japanese. If you are, we could talk some Japanese. Ok, back to the picture. I like the shot, and for me, if you do two things, it wont become a "so what" shot.

First thing to do is remove that green square thing on which that water pot is. That way the water pot will be on the table.

Secondly, remove the two bamboo objects that is on the water pot. That way, you will have water container and the flowers only.

And by the way, the two blades of long grasses are elegant. When you remove the green square thing under the water pot, how lovely will be the shadows that would be cast on the table !!

I did my thing, now it's turn to do yours.. Please post the results (if you take my advice). All the best.

And you said you tried different angles but to no avail. Thats becoz your angle on the current photo works.

I wonder if there is a little too much green in the white balance? I think it may look more elegant with more neutral tones, especially for the table top and background wall.

僕は日本人じゃないですけど、日本語で話しましょう!アドバイスありがとう!この写真は旅館の玄関に取った からも一度できない。

And for the non-Japanese reading members....

Thanks for your advice Sterling. I played around with the white balance quite a but and this looked the best to me, but I see what you are saying. It is a little too rich.

I think that this image is what it is. As I walked into the hotel, I saw this and thought, "that's kind of nice" and since I had my G10 in my hand I tried a few shots... But at the end of the day, this isn't a keeper.
