Default B&W Conversion for Competition - "Closed for the Season"

I'm considering entering this photo for my first photo competition; the competition theme is "Winter". I rarely convert my photos to B&W so I'd like some c&c on that. Of course, if there is anything else that catches your eye that you'd like to comment on, I'm all ears!

As far as the black and white conversion is concerned it needs a bit more contrast. The photo is very gray overall - usually you want some "true white" and some "true black" in each black and white photo.
