Default Glass and Water

Tried taking a picture of a water drop falling in a glass. got inspired by the 2nd picture that is here.

I see that the total execution has gone wrong. please suggest what i should do to get the shot. i think i would have done atleast 10 things wrong. the reason i used flash is because it was dark and slow shutter would not have taken the splash.

somehow i see that the 2nd picture was taken in dark but it looks good and not like mine without flash.

Nikon D90, 18-105mm lens, ISO640, f5/7, manual exposure, shutter 1/200, flash fired, focal length 105mm, auto WB.

Hi Tinsnow,

Taking pictures of water drops is really, really hard and I think your first effort is good. There are lots, and lots of ways to do it and there are lots of websites/blogs about it. You might want to check out the links here at DPS on this page:

How to Photograph Water Drops

I won't go into too much detail, but I think that you must use a flash for shots like this and the photographer of the second shot certainly used a flash. To get a black background, use something black behind the water glass, like a black piece of foam core or a black piece of cloth. Also, make sure that you have some distance between the background and your water glass so that the background is out of focus.

Hope that helps!
