i really like this picture, however in the critique section (which is where it is right now) you need to ask for something you would like us to look at in your picture, composition, lighting, use of the delicious looking chocolate muffin, you know whatever , other wise maybe share your shots for general showing your pictures or the how i took it section if you wanted to explain your set up and stuff

Hi Wushe,

I think this is pretty good. It is a hard subject to photograph. The white of the mug and the dark of the chocolate muffin are hard for the light meter in the camera to get right.

I would like to see more detail in the front of the muffin. I think if you put a white card (just some poster board or foam core) out of the frame under the lens, it would reflect the light back into the scene and brighten up the muffin (and the mug) filling in some detail.

Does that make sense?

Ah!..Sorry, I missed that bit out about what needed the critique, It was mainly in regards to How the shot looks...Does it look appetizing? chistmasy and invitingly warm? I also thought the lighting was off somehow but couldent place it..I agree the front of the muffin is too dark and thus its difficult to see a sense of scale and detail.

Thank you for the tip about the white board...I never thought of that..having way to much fun playing with my new d90 hehe, i forget all these little tricks in the heat of the moment lol!

Thank you again

Great suggestion because there also seems to be a bit of a shadow on the front of the mug. One additional option might be to try to use your pop up flash set to a low setting (1/4 power?) and a diffuser. My favorite is the LumiQuest Soft Screen. It is a pretty inexpensive and handy solution IMHO.
