Hello everyone,
Ive put myself on a project for the next 2 weeks where I want to try and photograph very everyday, mundane things. Im hoping this will help me improve my sense of composition, because I tend to be lost as to HOW I should photograph things. Here is one of my first attempts: A fence in morning sunlight. Ive only slighly adjusted the brightness and given it a gaussian blur>overlay with opacity of 60% or so. Can you please comment: -on the composition? -how can I photography something like this and make something as common as a fence look captivating (if you can ever make it look so!)? -would you photography something like this? Or should I technically stop taking pictures of just about everything?! ![]() Focal length: 36mm Exposure: 1/160th Aperture: 7.1 ISO: 100 Ta, Priya. |

Nice contrast on that phot and saturation, I like your personal challenge I think it will help a lot
![]() For the composition I think you should move the fence post thats in focus to the right more so its on the rule of thirds right hand third. The shallow depth of field really helps this photo though. |

I like your composition of the fence Priya, you've captured the shape of the fence nicely and the angle and depth of feel nicely exaggerate its length. You might like to try PomND's suggestion re the rule of thirds.
When shooting something like a picket fence, I think there are a few things you could think about shooting; patterns (the repetition of the pickets), light (shoot the light shining through the fence), shadows (the shadow of the fence on the ground) and details (hinges, locks, etc). You've set yourself an interesting and stimulating challenge. Keep posting the results !

I had been feeling like I havent been able to come up with any good pictures and I wasnt happy with the composition of any, so thought it would be a interesting thing to try. Carrying my camera everywhere I go!Thanks for your other ideas about how I could shoot a fence-I never thought about them! But yes, definitely will remind myself of this the next time Im shooting something. A little change of perspective. I dont think I am a natural at composition (or technique) so its just learn, learn, learn for me now! Enjoy your weekend both of you ![]() Priya. |
