What could I do to get better shots of this? I know it's not the best but I'm not good at low light photography...or any other for that matter...

One thing would be to pay more attention to the background which in this case isn't helping your photo at all. One way to avoid this would be to raise your camera and shoot more down into the bowl, eliminating the background altogether. Also, maybe use a more photogenic bowl without a chip?

This shot was taken at a neighbor's house and was not planned. I did notice the chip in the bowl after I had gotten home. I also see how the wall is not helping matters. I think a shot like this would be better with a black backdrop.
