Just Another Moon Shot

Hay Ladies & Gentleman,

I took the following shot after reading an article on here and for the life of me I can’t find it now but tonight I thought I would give it a try. It surprised me that even thou I had read a few secrets how to do it, it was still technically challenging.

Using the MANUAL focus on a Pentax ist DS and a Sigma 70-300mm lens with a Quantaray 2X AF converter. The Camera was set with a 10sec timer to reduce the vibration on the tripod from pressing the shutter button. I’m not convinced that when the shutter did go of if did rock the camera a little causing a little blurring. This was eased a little in Paintshop Pro & Lightroom 3.

Personally, I feel its too soft and lacking detail. Maybe I took it at the wrong time of year? I may consider trying again on a Full moon to get a better shot. Again…..Just for the challenge and having the warm fussy feeling I could achieve if it needed.

ISO = 200
Exposure = 1/500 sec
Exposure Bias = 0 Step

Anyone have any pointers on the settings used or other techniques?

To me, this picture seems too heavily processed. It seems like post production sharpening has brought out a lot of noise without really increasing the amount of detail. It may be slightly underexposed as well.
