Default Cemetery for Lovecraftian shot

I'm a huge fan of Lovecraft, and I would like to do some lovecraftian shots at the local cathedral's cemetery. Thus, I went there today, while it was still light, and I found a nice place where I want to do the shot when it's darker outside.

Exposure: 0.017 sec (1/60)
Aperture: f/3.5
Focal Length: 18 mm
Exposure: 0.00
ISO Speed: 400
Exposure Bias: 0 EV

(Larger version here: Clicky!)

Now, the question is: How do I make this scene look more lovecraftian? It will of course be darker, but is there other things I can do? I was thinking about painting the tombstones with light.

Oh, and should I crop it different?

i think painting the tombstones with light is a good idea.....(are you talking in post?).....i'd also toy around with setting the rest of the scene a bit darker with multiply or overlay mode.......a vignette as well?

Thank you for your reply peeperita.

No, I was thinking about painting with light on location. Bringing a MagLite and a flashgun, and do the scene with a long exposure. It is of course possible to do it in post as well, but I feel that it is better to do things on location, than to sit and fiddle with it in Photoshop.

I do think I'll try for a black & white version, and one "black & white hand-coloured (in Photoshop) version. But it might also be possible that the original will be spooky enough.

(Oh, and for those of you who doesn't know Lovecraft. Think Halloween instead, or read about H.P. Lovecraft on wikipedia.)

i've done a bit of that kind of light painting and i think that's a great idea.....since it will be later in the evening, you'll get some great color in the sky....
