Default Cards close-up

I didn't know if this is considered a macro, since it's not really super close, so I decided to post it here.

know when to hold em

Questions: How is the DOF? Lighting? Anything I could do to improve?

Camera: Canon Rebel XS
Lens: 18-55mm

would be a 'heartbreak' if any one of them were a Hearts. Maybe the Queen of Hearts? Breaks the pattern too.

Just my 2 cents. I know there are better commenters out there.

Great idea from djfoo on breaking up the flush with some red. You could then process b/w except for the red. I like the shot, the dark background. I think what you chose for DOF works well and makes it a more interesting photo than if all cards were in sharp focus. Nice job.

I also agree with the idea about making one card colour. I bet if that super sharp Jack was a red diamond or heart it would just about pop off the screen.
