The following is one of my first attempts in panning photography. I just started to learn panning a week ago & here is a shot I would like you to critique on.
![]() The shot was taken with a Canon Powershot SX100 IS under Manual mode with a shutter speed of 1/80th of a second, aperture was set to 8.0 while ISO was at 200. The metering mode used was Evaluative. What could be done to improve the shot? I feel the subject can be more sharper. Here is another one : Imageshack - boyrunpanning - Uploaded by Linuxfreak

The actual image doesn't look to bad. Motion is fairly well frozen. It seems like the black level is a little to low, e.g., there isn't any black in the shot. It lacks contrast.
However, it doesn't show "movement" to me. The pose you caught doesn't make it seem like he is doing much. I think having an arm back, about to throw would be a more powerful image. Don't forget the rule of thirds. Centers subjects have their places but images are usually more powerful if you can place the subject along one of the "thirds".
