Default Pencil, what do you think?

I have seen some images using this unfocused style and thought i was interesting, tell me if you think this out of focus effect works well with this picture. Also composition and exposure, but im mostly curious about the effect of the effect

Personally, I don't care for it.

White balance is way off and it looks underexposed.

As far as the composition goes, I think it would work a little better if more of the mechanical pencil extended into the frame.

ya i know about the white balance in particular, combination of the light i was using (no flash) and me forgetting to change the white balance settings before shooting

I think the fact that the white balance is technically "incorrect" is an advantage rather than a disadvantage. It would be rather boring if the paper was simply white - the orange tone gives it a different mood. That said, I would have backed off on just how orange you made it a little bit.

I don't think the unfocused effect works with this particular picture, as I have nothing to anchor my attention on, and my eyes end up wandering to the top right corner and the edge of the paper, right out of the picture.

Although the idea is fairly good, the picture is not at all a very good one.

The Pencil is out of focus...maybe because of lack of light. The white balance is ........ improper.
And you could move the pencil and the spiral binding both more into the frame to make it look a lot better.

I don't usually say this, but try again

I don't take the best pictures or compose the best pictures but...is there anything in focus? The whole shot looks like you just hoped for the best and didn't really try.

Just a thought but try cropping the bottom to just below the tip of the pencils shadow.

my goal in the shot was to have nothing in focus , however to not let the pencil become too blurred and unrecognizable, like i said i saw this technique elsewhere on dps and decided to give it a shot
