Default Panning - sharper subject and blurred background

Hi there!

looking for help to improve the sharpness of my subject (here is the only decent one after 200 photos today) and I seen on other panning that the background with that is more blurred.

EXIM information:
Camera: Canon EOS 30D
Exposure: 0.04 sec (1/25)
Aperture: f/10.0
Focal Length: 47 mm
ISO Speed: 100

Tips? Ideas?

Thanks,

Rui

Thats good composition to that shot and the bike and riders are in good focus but if you want more consistency I would suggest bumping up your shutter speed to about 1/50 to 1/60. If you pan with good motion you should have a good blur at that speed and you'll have a better chance of getting the subject sharp.

I would recommended Tv @ 1/125 and Av of f/8 and a sweep at even pace to capture detail of subject perhaps continous or single shots a little bit of both ans see what works

cheers

i would go for the same shutter speed. If possible go for Av of f/5.6.Before you take the shot try to focus on 1 point on the road, where you want your rider to be captured.Set the aperture value accordingly. When you are choosing the point see whether the background is out of focus or not. Then be ready to pan.Hope this helps.
Another thing i noticed from the pic is that the background is too close to the biker.try to put her a little in the middle and you move back a little. If that is not an option then try as told earlier.best of luck

How about setting your focusing system to "AI Servo", too? This way it tracks the subject better. At least according to the manual

Otherwise you can have longer times (like 1/25 or maybe even 1/10) with wide angle lenses, but with normal and tele lenses I'd go with shorter times, as suggested.
