Red face Close up rubber bands

I've been studying for the CPA exam, and during the boring bits where my mind can't absorb any more information, I set up still lifes on my desk. This was one of them.

I cropped the photo so that the entire rubber band ball wasn't visible because there was too much "noise" in the background (books, paper cups, etc).

I've taken thousands of pictures a year for two decades, but only recently started to think I'd like to become more serious about photography. This is one of my first planned shots. My camera is a point-and-shoot: Casio Ex-Z50.

Not to be too general, but before I set up my next desk-top photo shoot, what might I improve (lighting, composition, for instance).

Edited to note: I don't know what exif is exactly, excepting that it's some sort of file type. I'm not sure how to use it so please feel free to delete if this isn't an appropriate post because of that.

Edited again:
Camera: Casio EX-Z50
Exposure: 0.1 sec (1/10)
Aperture: f/2.6
Focal Length: 5.8 mm
Exposure Bias: 0 EV
Flash: Off
