Default Deadhead, or, the end of summer

Just a month ago, this flower was in its prime. Now ... does it work as a picture?

Nikon D40, Nikkor 70-300 G VR
1/60 sec @ f/20, ISO 400

I think this would work in a theme arena, such as a pictoral of life and death or all things end, that sort of theme.
