Default B&W Bell

We visited an old farm house a couple months ago and I found this old bell hanging around. I tried all sorts of crops and levels and this is what I've come up with. I'm personally really happy with the lighting and the composition is alright.

What does everyone else think of the lighting and the compostion? Is there a way to improve upon this photo?

The crop or angle of the photo dosent look right as the clapper should be vertical ,the BW conversion is good except for the area around the bottom.

?? K I'm lost which part around the bottom? The area around the clapper, the general confusion from the background or the bottom edge of the bell? All of the above?

Sorry I was not more specific, the area around the clapper just doesn't look right, maybe to much blur JMO

Thats what I thought you were talking about, just wanted to make sure. I think part of the problem was the tree (I seem to remember it was a tree anyway) behind the clapper, that didn't convert well.

What would you suggest to reconcile the problem? Darken the area to lessen the impact? Clone it out perhaps?

I keep going back to the crop and not really feeling the angle of course this like all things is photographer preference, what looks good to me might not look as good to others. Having said that not all pictures lend themselves to BW conversion. Here is my take on it.

Hope you dont mind
