Default Lock

Wanted to get some feedback on this photo, modified in Lightroom. Want to know what you think about composition, cropping, mood of the picture and any other feedback you might care to give me ...

It is too dark and grimy to make out what the subject of the photo is. It looks like you have also done some selective decolouring... I wonder if the original was easier to interpret?

Hi Wulf,

The item is a slide lock on an old door in one of Melbournes laneways ... did remove most of the colour to make it look more gothic and raise a question in the mind what does the lock unleash? Yes, you are quite right the original was easier to interpret.

Have increased the exposure a little which has showed up more detail in the picture, and re-cropped, and altered the angle. Here is the second attempt at it.

Oh and forgot to add it ealier, here is the basic EXIF

Taken: August 7, 2009
Camera: Nikon D90
Exposure: 1/4000
Aperture: f/5.0
Focal Length: 50 mm
ISO Speed: 1600
Flash: Did not fire
Image cropped

Definitely easier to "read" the lighter version.

I am a huge fan of selective coloring and do it a lot with my photos usually to give it a certain feel or make something/someone stand out of the image. Im not really understanding what you are trying to accomplish with the selective coloring in this photo?
I def like the new angle and the lighter version... its easier to see what is in the photo. Altho I dont get a "goth" feel from it. I get more of an abstract/dirty feeling.

I felt the colour of rust displays the door/lock is old than just dirty.
